School & Eco-Councils

At Stepgates we are proud to have a School Council and Eco-School Council.  Please see below for further information.

School Council

Our School Council plays a key role within their classes and across the school. The children become School Councillors by being voted for by their classmates. They have a range of roles across the school. As well as helping with fundraising both for our school and selected charities, they are also the spokespeople for ensuring the children's views and opinions in our school are heard. They achieve this by sharing any issues, questions or ideas with Mrs Ford, our Headteacher, as well as other staff across the school.

Recent School Council Events

September 2023

The School Council have been voted on, the group have had an initial welcome meeting and are excited for the year ahead. During an assembly, the pupils in school have met the School Council representatives for their Key Stage.

We have reinforced the importance of the School Council to enable the voices of all children in school to be heard as they share their views, thoughts and ideas on improving our school and raising money for charities.  The first event they are promoting is Jeans for Genes day. We are looking forward to the exciting opportunities ahead.

Autumn Term

We raised £205 for Jeans for Genes Day.

We spoke about worry monsters and promoting our School Council suggestion boxes on World Mental Health Day.

School Council Events coming up

The School Council will begin their weekly meetings in late September for the Autumn Term. We will be continuing our fundraising efforts, as well as thinking of ways to continually improve our school.

We are currently working on organising Children in Need on 17th November and Christmas Jumper Day.

The children will be sharing PowerPoint presentations with their classes to raise the profile of the work that they do and ensure the classes are fully informed of future activities and praised for the money they have raised.

We will also form part of a working party to try and secure funding for playground equipment.

Eco-School Council

Our Eco-School Council also plays a key role within their classes and around the school.  We are delighted to announce that Stepgates Community School achieved the Green Flag in July 2022 for Eco-Schools. We are now looking for a new Eco-Schools team for 2023-2024, to continue our good work.

Their aim is to guide, empower and motivate fellow pupils to drive change and improve environmental awareness in our school, the local community and beyond.

The Stepgates Community School Eco Code will be:

  • To improve biodiversity by making bigger, brighter homes for birds, bugs, bees, bats and butterflies
  • To make Stepgates special by sustaining our nature space
  • To leave litter louts out; we won't let litter touch the ground, pick it up if it is found!

Meet Our Eco-Schools Council

Names for our Eco-Schools Team for 2023-2024 will be announced shortly.
