Junior Centre - Robins
All About Robins
Robins is our Key Stage 2 Specialist Centre class, led by Mrs Conn and Mrs Muller, alongside an experienced and dedicated team. Together, they bring a wealth of expertise in supporting children with a range of additional needs, ensuring every pupil receives tailored, high-quality provision.
We work in small groups, using a range of specialist teaching strategies to support the children in Robins. Our learning is pupil-focused and based on the children's likes and interests, while carefully addressing their individual needs.
To further enhance our provision, we have introduced a split approach to English and Maths, allowing us to better cater to pupils’ specific learning profiles and access arrangements. This structure enables more targeted teaching, maximising progress and engagement in both core areas.
Children in Robins also benefit from support from our Speech and Language Therapists and Therapy Assistants. This includes:
- Individual Speech and Language Therapy sessions
- Small group sessions
- In-class support
Children attend Robins in the morning, and integrate into their mainstream classes in the afternoon, promoting inclusion and social development.
Our Topics
In Robins, all planning is child-led, meaning topics are chosen based on the children's interests. This approach ensures high engagement and meaningful learning experiences. Previous topics have included:
- Biographies
- Crazy Characters
- Focus texts such as Silly Billy and George’s Marvellous Medicine
All topics have a strong focus on language development, with rich opportunities for conversation and vocabulary building. This supports confidence and reinforces Speech and Language therapy targets in a natural and engaging way.
