Year 6 - Kites

Welcome!

Welcome to Year 6, an exciting and memorable year that marks the final stage of your child's primary school journey. As the oldest children in the school, Year 6 pupils embrace a wide range of leadership opportunities, helping to shape our school community while developing the confidence and independence needed for a successful transition to secondary school.

We are committed to providing a nurturing, inclusive and supportive environment where every child can flourish. Through targeted interventions, booster groups and personalised learning plans, we work closely with children and families to help every pupil achieve their full potential academically, socially and emotionally.

A key focus of Year 6 is preparing children for their end of Key Stage 2 SATs assessments. Our approach is designed to build confidence rather than create pressure, providing opportunities to consolidate learning, develop reasoning skills and become familiar with assessment techniques while continuing to enjoy a broad and engaging curriculum.

Preparing children for secondary school is an important part of the Year 6 experience. We encourage pupils to develop resilience, independence, organisation and responsibility so they feel confident and ready for the next stage of their education.

As senior members of the school community, Year 6 pupils can apply for a variety of leadership roles, including Head Boy, Head Girl, Deputy Head Boy and Deputy Head Girl. Children may also serve as House Captains or Values Ambassadors, developing leadership skills while making a positive contribution to school life.

Our learning is brought to life through exciting themes across the year: Autumn Term - WW2: Put That Light Out; Spring Term - The Wider World; and Summer Term - Britain Since 1945.

Year 6 is enriched by a range of memorable experiences beyond the classroom. Highlights include our residential visit to the Isle of Wight, the Junior Citizen programme, Evacuee Day, the Leavers' Service at Guildford Cathedral and an end-of-year celebration visit to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London - The Making of Harry Potter.

Year 6 is a year of challenge, achievement, fun and celebration. We are proud to support every child as they grow in confidence, independence and maturity, ensuring they leave primary school ready for the exciting opportunities ahead.
