Maths
At Stepgates, we are committed to delivering a high-quality, inclusive mathematics curriculum that promotes deep understanding, enjoyment, and long-term success for all pupils.
Rooted in the principles of teaching for mastery, our approach ensures that:
- All pupils develop fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
- Learning is carefully sequenced, with new concepts introduced in small, manageable steps.
- Pupils build secure foundations and make meaningful connections across mathematical ideas.
Our curriculum, supported by the White Rose Maths scheme and NCETM’s Ready to Progress criteria, is designed to raise attainment and engagement. Pupils are encouraged to explore concepts using concrete, pictorial, and abstract representations, developing confidence and flexibility in applying their knowledge.
Through regular teaching sessions, we provide opportunities for pupils to reason, solve problems, and relate mathematical ideas to real-life contexts—preparing them for future learning and adult life.
By fostering a shared pedagogical approach and strengthening staff subject knowledge, we aim to diminish gaps in achievement and ensure every child becomes a resilient, capable mathematician.
